Grand Caverns Speleo-Putt-Putt
needs YOUR help!
Adopt a Hole now!
Designed and built, believe it or not, as a world-class course for the national putt-putt
championships years ago, the mini-golf course at Grand Caverns now pales in comparison to
modern, themed courses. We would really like to spruce it up for the upcoming VAR speleo-putt-putt
tournament and are soliciting YOUR help. This is an ideal project for the whole family!
Put on your creative thinking beanies and built a hazard or two to bring with you to place on the course.
Get creative, but keep it cave-themed. We would like to show the park how they could use the golf course to
promote the cave. Interpretive signs are encouraged, like "Shields are rare cave formations that are found
in abundance in Grand Caverns." The rules are simple:
- The hazards must not alter and must do no harm to the existing course.
- The hazards must do no harm to the players.
- All hazards must be temporary. No nails or screws to attach to the existing course.
- No mud or sand, please.
- No electricity is available for moving hazards.
The course is pictured below. Click on any hole for a larger picture. Here are some ideas to get you started...
- Paper-mache stalagmites, with or without tunnels.
- Cardboard or wood shields.
- Loop-D-Loops.
- Bats of all sizes and shapes, even better if they flap.
- Bernard Weyer's animal trap.
- Grotto or NSS emblems.
- Backdrops or dioramas.
Individuals and Grottos are encouraged to Adopt a Hole - e-mail Jim McConkey
(mcjames@comcast.net) to claim your hole. First come, first served.
Get 'em while they're hot!
