CLOVER HOLLOW

...at least 200 feet more..."

On Saturday April 15, 1944, Larry Andrews, Dr. Murray, Sam Rainey and two others left VPI in an old truck for a long-awaited trip to Clover Hollow Cave. Just past Cecil's Grill, a tire blew up. Reaching the cave at 6:00 PM, they cut down some of the nearby woods for construction timber. The first descent was made easily, although lowering the timber gave them problems. After crashing for some sleep at 6:00 AM, they were awakened by the arrival of the Sunday group at 10:30 AM. Of major interest is the fact that Larry Andrews was lowered for approximately 50 feet into a new drop; he insists that there is 200 feet more to go. "GROTTO GRAPEVINE. April 20. 1944.
