The Northeastern Virginia Grotto was organized by Kenneth Perry in 1956; it was active until 1958. Perry served as chairman of the group during its entire existence; Robert L. Lutz held the vice-chairman position followed by Stan Carts. Veronica Clites was elected secretary and Steve Logan was the treasurer.
Ken Perry taught the group to rappel using the method known as the single scary-biner rappel - a carabiner on a nylon seat web with a pad on the shoulder.
