KARL PRUSIK
Dr. Karl Prusik Died in May 1961 at the age of 65. The inventor of the prusik knot had served twice as president of the Osterreichischer Alpenklub and is said to have pioneered some 70 new ascents or routes. Many individuals not knowing the source of the name misspell the well-known knot.--THE POTOMAC CAVER, Volume 6, 1963.
SMILE! IT'S
The illustrious Don Davison..
Photographer unknown.
On a trip to an exquisite southwestern Virginia cave, Don Davison noticed a lovely white formation with mud on it. He uttered an expletive, and commented that probably no one had brought a toothbrush along. Tony McGee, a Mountain Empire Grotto member who regularly carries a toothbrush to clean spent carbide from his lamp bottom and brush carbide from the water valve, produced a soiled brush. Astounded that anyone would have a toothbrush at the exact moment he wanted one, Don took the brush in his hand. The others, who expected Dom to clean the brush and attack the muddied formation, watched incredulously as Don washed the brush and proceeded to brush his teeth--Tony McGee, November 1978.
