"OLD TIMERS HOLD REUNION OVER
LABOR DAY WEEKEND; FELIX
ROBINSON GUEST OF HONOR:
--WILL BE ANNUAL EVENT"

-NSS News, 1950

'Well, suh, if you were one of those who couldn't make it to Davis, WV, over Labor Day weekend, you really have cause for regret, for you missed a bang--up spelunkers' reunion.

Felix Robinson, one of the old pioneers, and Lucille, his wife, were the guests of honor. Due to prolonged illness, he has been unable to do any caving for several years. However, everyone was happy to see him so much improved that he was able to accompany the group on two caving trips.

The Worden Hotel, as in the early days of the Society, was the headquarters of all activities, and believe you me, they dished out the same abundance of hospitality and good 'vittles' for which they are so well known.

Members started arriving Friday afternoon in time for the proverbial "social hour" before dinner, and by Saturday afternoon the number had swelled to forty-five.

According to ancient custom, Bill Stephenson acted as master of ceremonies and kept things lively, and the indomitable and tireless Petrie headed up the outdoor activities and was ever ready to lend any groups who had an urge to go caving. Altogether, eight caverns in that region were invaded by the cave crawlers.

Felix Robinson was given a gold NSS membership pit as a token of the Society's affection and esteem. The presentation was made at the big group dinner Saturday night. A framed engrossed membership certificate was also presented to Felix by the Richmond Grotto.

The reunion was planned on such short notice that it could not be reported in the August NEWS; however, it proved such a huge success that the group unanimously voted to repeat it every Labor Day as an NSS pilgrimage to Davis, and it was suggested by some that it be called "Spelix Day" in honor of SPE-lunker Fe-LIX.
